Welcome to The Roi Joy Journal

Welcome to The Roi Joy Journal

Hi! I'm Kristin!

Welcome to our little piece of the Lowcountry (or Slowcountry, as I so lovingly, like to call it.) Here you'll find illustrations, the stories behind those illustrations, updates on what I'm working on, and whatever's been laid on my heart.

We'll dive into the many whys behind Roi Joy Co in later posts, but for now I'll just give you a tidbit of who I am, the person behind the drawings, tshirts, logo designs, stories, and more. But behind me is often at least one tiny face, leaning over my shoulder as I draw designs, giving me feedback and yelling, "Momma I LOVE that!" Before I am Kristin, the illustrator, I am Momma. And how sweet it is to be loved, rejoiced over, encouraged, and embraced by three little girls.

Our days are filled to the brim with whimsy and exploration, creative pursuits scattered across our kitchen table, and lots of time with our toes buried in the sand or covered in marsh water. I'm convinced this way of life, the slow pace, the constant breathing in of salt air preserves a body and soul in ways that only the Lord can explain. We love this life.

A few weeks ago, I was diagnosed with tendinitis, and it landed me straight on my booty. I had to sit for a week straight while I waited on it to heal, and as someone who loves to be on my feet moving around, it felt like torture... until I picked up my Ipad and began drawing again.

I love doodling, designing, capturing life in illustration, but motherhood had left me with little time to make a priority of my own pursuits (have I mentioned that I'm also 34 weeks pregnant?), but with a week to spare, what could I do? Start a t-shirt brand and begin illustrating again?

Stop letting this busy season convince me there wasn’t room for my own creativity? Make a little lemonade out of lemons?

Maybe.

Maybe so.

And perhaps that’s where Roi Joy really begins—with a swollen foot, an iPad, three little girls cheering over my shoulder, and the quiet realization that it was time to start drawing again.
